ZEX — Intelligent Nitrous Oxide Systems with Patented Safety Management

ZEX has been engineering nitrous oxide systems since 1997, differentiating itself from the competition through the development of intelligent nitrous management technology that addresses the safety and reliability concerns that have historically made nitrous oxide a high-risk power adder for street-driven vehicles. ZEX's patented Nitrous Oxide Management System (NOMS) and integrated safety features make ZEX systems the correct choice for street performance builders who want the power gains of nitrous without the engine damage risk of a conventional system that activates regardless of engine conditions.

Nitrous Oxide Management System (NOMS)

ZEX's patented NOMS technology monitors engine operating conditions in real time and prevents nitrous activation when conditions are outside the safe operating window for nitrous use. The system monitors manifold vacuum, throttle position, and RPM to ensure nitrous only activates at wide-open throttle, above a minimum RPM threshold, and under the correct engine load conditions for safe nitrous operation. If any monitored parameter falls outside the safe activation window during a nitrous run, NOMS shuts off the nitrous immediately — preventing the detonation and engine damage that occurs when nitrous activates under partial throttle or at low RPM on a conventional system.

This intelligent activation management is the defining advantage of ZEX systems over conventional nitrous setups that rely entirely on the driver to activate nitrous only under correct conditions. On a street-driven vehicle where the driver may not always be in the ideal position to manage nitrous activation manually, NOMS provides an automatic safety layer that protects the engine from the most common causes of nitrous-related engine damage.

Street & Strip Nitrous Systems

ZEX produces wet and dry nitrous systems for carbureted and EFI street and strip applications, with plate and direct port delivery configurations for different induction systems and power levels. Street systems are designed for straightforward installation on daily-driven performance vehicles, with NOMS integration providing the safety management needed for street use where nitrous activation conditions are less controlled than a dedicated race environment.

ZEX street systems are available in power levels from 55 hp to 175 hp for plate system applications, with direct port systems available for higher power levels on dedicated performance builds. All ZEX systems include the nitrous bottle, solenoids, nozzle or plate, activation switch, wiring harness, and all required hardware for a complete installation on supported applications.

Race Nitrous Systems

ZEX produces race-oriented nitrous systems for dedicated drag race and high-performance applications where maximum power output and consistent delivery are the priorities. Race systems use higher-flow solenoids, larger jet options, and race-calibrated activation parameters for the controlled environment of track use. Progressive nitrous controllers are available for race applications where gradual power application improves traction and reduces drivetrain shock at launch.

Nitrous Bottles & Accessories

ZEX produces nitrous bottles in multiple capacities for different application requirements, with the distinctive ZEX bottle design and high-flow valve for consistent liquid nitrous delivery to the solenoid. Bottle heaters maintain correct bottle pressure across varying ambient temperatures for consistent power delivery regardless of weather conditions. Purge valves clear vapor from the nitrous line before activation, ensuring liquid nitrous reaches the solenoid immediately on the first activation of the day.

Common Applications

ZEX nitrous systems cover carbureted and EFI domestic V8 applications — including GM LS and LT, Small Block and Big Block Chevy, Ford Coyote and Modular, and Chrysler/Mopar V8 platforms. Import performance applications are covered by ZEX's universal and application-specific kits for Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and other popular platforms. The NOMS safety system is compatible with both carbureted and EFI applications, with correct sensor connections for each induction system type.

Supporting Modifications

ZEX nitrous systems require supporting modifications appropriate for the power level being added — ignition timing retard, fuel system capacity, and engine internal strength must all be appropriate for the shot size being used. ZEX's NOMS system provides safety management for activation conditions but does not replace the need for correct engine preparation for the power level being added. ZEX provides power level guidelines and supporting modification recommendations for each system in the lineup.
