Volant — Cold Air Intakes & PowerCore Filtration for Trucks, SUVs & Performance Vehicles

Volant Performance has been engineering cold air intake systems and air filtration solutions for the performance aftermarket since 1996, building a product lineup distinguished by the proprietary PowerCore filtration technology that sets Volant apart from conventional oiled and dry filter intake systems. Volant cold air intakes are engineered for correct fitment, maximum airflow, and long service life on the most popular domestic truck, SUV, and performance vehicle platforms — delivering measurable horsepower and torque gains through improved intake airflow and reduced intake air temperature.

Cold Air Intake Systems

Volant cold air intake systems replace the factory airbox and intake tube with a larger-diameter, heat-shielded intake path that draws cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay for improved combustion efficiency and power output. The intake tube is mandrel-bent for consistent interior diameter through every curve, eliminating the flow restriction of the factory corrugated rubber intake hose. A heat shield or enclosed airbox isolates the filter from underhood heat, maintaining the intake air temperature advantage of the cold air location throughout the operating cycle.

Application-specific designs for Ford F-150, F-250, and F-350, Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado, GMC Sierra and Canyon, Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500, Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, Jeep Wrangler, and a range of additional platforms ensure correct MAF sensor placement, correct throttle body fitment, and correct heat shield integration for each supported engine. Volant intakes are calibrated to work with the factory ECU without requiring additional tuning on naturally aspirated applications.

PowerCore Filtration Technology

Volant's PowerCore filtration technology is the defining characteristic of the brand's intake systems, using a synthetic filter media with a unique cell structure that provides high airflow with excellent filtration efficiency — without the oil maintenance required by conventional oiled gauze filters. PowerCore filters are dry-type filters that never require oiling, eliminating the risk of MAF sensor contamination from over-oiled filter media that is a known issue with oiled gauze filters on MAF-equipped vehicles.

The PowerCore filter media provides filtration efficiency comparable to OEM paper filters while flowing significantly more air, and the synthetic construction is washable and reusable for the life of the vehicle. The combination of high flow, correct filtration, and no-oil maintenance makes PowerCore the correct filter choice for daily-driven trucks and SUVs where filter maintenance simplicity is as important as performance.

Closed Box & Open Element Designs

Volant produces both closed box and open element intake configurations depending on the application and the desired balance between cold air isolation and maximum airflow. Closed box designs fully enclose the filter in a sealed airbox that draws air from a cold air source outside the engine bay, providing maximum intake air temperature reduction for the best power gains in hot underhood environments. Open element designs expose the filter to the engine bay environment for maximum airflow in applications where underhood temperatures are less of a concern or where the open filter appearance is preferred.

Common Applications

Volant cold air intakes cover the most popular domestic truck and SUV platforms — Ford F-150 EcoBoost and V8, F-250 and F-350 Power Stroke diesel and gasoline, Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado, GMC Sierra and Canyon, Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 including Cummins diesel applications, Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, and Jeep Wrangler JK and JL. Performance car applications include Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, and Dodge Challenger and Charger on select model years.

Installation Notes

Volant cold air intake installations are straightforward bolt-on procedures on most applications, completable with basic hand tools in 30–60 minutes. The factory airbox, intake tube, and resonator are removed and replaced with the Volant components using the factory MAF sensor and all factory electrical connections. No ECU tuning is required on naturally aspirated applications — the factory ECU adapts to the increased airflow through normal fuel trim adjustment. Turbocharged and supercharged applications may benefit from a tune to take full advantage of the increased airflow capability of the Volant intake.
