Valvoline
Valvoline — America's First Motor Oil Brand & Trusted Automotive Lubricants
Valvoline has been producing motor oil since 1866 — making it the oldest motor oil brand in America and one of the most recognized names in automotive lubrication worldwide. From conventional motor oils for everyday drivers to full synthetic formulations for high-performance and high-mileage engines, Valvoline produces a comprehensive lubricant lineup that covers every vehicle type, every engine configuration, and every driving condition. The same brand that has been trusted by generations of drivers and mechanics continues to develop advanced lubricant technology for modern engines with tighter tolerances, higher operating temperatures, and longer service intervals than any engine Valvoline's founders could have imagined.
Full Synthetic Motor Oils
Valvoline's full synthetic motor oil lineup delivers maximum engine protection and performance for modern gasoline and diesel engines that specify full synthetic oil. Advanced Synthetic and SynPower formulations provide superior wear protection, thermal stability, and oxidation resistance compared to conventional and synthetic blend alternatives — maintaining correct viscosity across the full operating temperature range from cold start to sustained high-temperature operation.
Valvoline's full synthetic oils meet or exceed the API, ILSAC, and OEM specifications required for factory warranty compliance on supported vehicles, providing the correct additive package and viscosity characteristics for each supported application. Extended drain interval capability allows longer oil change intervals on vehicles where the OEM specifies extended service intervals with full synthetic oil.
High Mileage Motor Oils
Valvoline's MaxLife High Mileage motor oil is formulated specifically for engines with 75,000 miles or more, addressing the specific lubrication challenges of higher-mileage engines — increased seal wear, increased oil consumption, and increased internal clearances that affect oil pressure and film thickness. MaxLife contains seal conditioners that restore flexibility to aged engine seals, reducing oil leaks and consumption without the risk of seal damage from aggressive seal swell additives. Available in conventional, synthetic blend, and full synthetic formulations to match the OEM specification of each supported vehicle.
Racing & Performance Oils
Valvoline produces racing and performance motor oils for high-performance street and competition applications where standard motor oils are insufficient for the operating conditions of the engine. VR1 Racing Oil is formulated with elevated zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP) content for flat-tappet camshaft protection in classic and high-performance engines where modern API-rated oils have reduced ZDDP content that is insufficient for high-pressure valvetrain contact. VR1 is available in conventional and synthetic formulations across a range of viscosity grades for different engine types and ambient temperature conditions.
The elevated ZDDP content in VR1 makes it the correct choice for classic muscle car engines, hot rod builds, and any engine with a flat-tappet camshaft where camshaft and lifter wear is a concern with modern API-rated motor oils. VR1 is also used in racing applications where maximum anti-wear protection is required for high-RPM, high-load engine operation.
Gear Oils & Transmission Fluids
Valvoline produces gear oils for manual transmissions, differentials, and transfer cases in conventional and synthetic formulations across the most common viscosity grades. Synthetic gear oils provide improved low-temperature flow for easier cold-weather shifting and improved high-temperature stability for towing and performance applications where gear oil temperatures exceed the capability of conventional alternatives. Limited-slip differential additive is available for clutch-pack LSD applications that require friction modifier content for correct clutch engagement and chatter prevention.
Specialty Lubricants
Valvoline produces a range of specialty lubricants for specific automotive applications — including automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and multi-purpose grease. ATF formulations cover the most common domestic and import automatic transmission specifications, with multi-vehicle ATF options that meet multiple OEM specifications in a single product for simplified inventory management. DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluids meet the minimum boiling point requirements of each specification for correct brake system function.
Common Applications
Valvoline motor oils cover domestic and import vehicles across all engine types — gasoline, diesel, turbocharged, naturally aspirated, and high-performance applications. VR1 Racing Oil is particularly well-suited for classic muscle cars, hot rods, and performance builds wit...
