Wastegates

Turbosmart produces internal and external wastegates for the full range of turbocharged performance applications. External wastegates are the correct choice for high-boost race applications where the factory internal wastegate cannot flow sufficient exhaust gas to control boost at the target pressure. An external wastegate bypasses exhaust flow around the turbine wheel through a separate valve and outlet, providing the flow capacity needed for aggressive boost targets on large-displacement and high-power engines.

Turbosmart's GenV and Hyper-Gate series external wastegates are available in 38mm, 45mm, and 60mm valve sizes to match the exhaust flow requirements of different engine displacements and boost levels. Stainless steel valve and seat construction withstands the high exhaust temperatures of turbocharged race engines, and the dual-port actuator design allows independent control of opening and closing pressure for precise boost curve management. Internal wastegate actuators are available for OEM turbocharger applications where increased boost pressure capability is needed without the complexity of an external wastegate installation.

Blow-Off Valves & Bypass Valves

Turbosmart blow-off valves (BOV) and bypass valves (BPV) vent pressurized intake charge air when the throttle closes, preventing compressor surge that causes turbocharger bearing wear and the characteristic flutter sound of an unsupported compressor wheel under rapid throttle lift. Turbosmart BOVs are available in atmospheric vent and recirculating configurations — atmospheric units vent to atmosphere for the distinctive blow-off sound, while recirculating units return the vented air to the intake upstream of the compressor for compatibility with mass airflow sensor-equipped vehicles.

The Turbosmart Kompact series provides a direct OEM replacement blow-off valve upgrade for factory turbocharged vehicles, with correct flange dimensions and correct spring rates for the factory boost pressure range. The Race Port and Dual Port series step up to higher flow capacity for modified engines running elevated boost pressure beyond the factory BOV's capability.

Boost Controllers

Turbosmart manual and electronic boost controllers provide precise boost pressure adjustment for turbocharged engines. Manual boost controllers use a needle valve to regulate the pressure signal to the wastegate actuator, allowing boost pressure to be set higher than the wastegate spring rate without electronic components. Electronic boost controllers provide solenoid-controlled boost regulation with programmable boost curves, gear-based boost limiting, and data logging capability for the most precise boost management on modified and race engines.

Turbocharger Accessories

Turbosmart produces a range of turbocharger accessories including oil feed and drain fittings, turbo inlet adapters, and boost reference fittings for complete turbocharger system installations. Correct oil feed and drain fittings are critical for turbocharger longevity — insufficient oil flow causes bearing failure, while incorrect drain routing causes oil pooling in the center section that leads to seal failure and oil consumption.

Turbosmart products cover domestic and import turbocharged applications — including GM EcoTec and LNF, Ford EcoBoost, Subaru EJ and FA, Mitsubishi 4G63 and 4B11, Nissan RB and SR, Toyota 2JZ and 1JZ, and a range of custom turbo kit applications where universal wastegate and BOV components are required. External wastegates are universal with correct inlet and outlet flange sizing for the specific exhaust manifold and downpipe being used.

Installation Notes

External wastegate installations require a correctly sized wastegate port in the exhaust manifold and a correctly routed wastegate outlet to the downpipe or atmosphere. Wastegate outlet routing affects boost control behavior — back-pressure in the wastegate outlet reduces the wastegate's ability to control boost at high RPM.
