Tilton Engineering — Premium Racing Clutch Systems, Pedal Assemblies & Hydraulic Components

Tilton Engineering has been manufacturing precision racing components since 1973, supplying professional racing teams in IndyCar, IMSA, Le Mans, and endurance racing worldwide with clutch systems, pedal assemblies, master cylinders, and balance bars that perform at the highest level of motorsport competition. When the engineering demands of professional racing require components that are lighter, more precise, and more reliable than anything available from the general performance aftermarket, Tilton is the brand that professional teams specify. That same engineering standard is available to serious amateur racers and high-performance builders who demand professional-grade components for their builds.

Racing Clutch Systems

Tilton's racing clutch systems are engineered for the specific torque capacity, weight, and engagement characteristics required by different classes of motorsport competition. Multi-plate clutch systems use multiple small-diameter friction discs to achieve high torque capacity in a compact, lightweight package — the correct approach for race cars where clutch weight and rotating inertia directly affect drivetrain response and lap times. Single-plate and twin-plate systems cover applications where a multi-plate unit is not required or not permitted by class rules.

Tilton clutch systems are available in 5.5", 7.25", and other diameters to match the bellhousing and transmission requirements of different race car applications. Friction disc materials are selected for the specific heat load, engagement characteristics, and service life requirements of each application — from endurance racing clutches that must survive 24 hours of use to sprint race clutches optimized for maximum performance over a shorter service interval.

Pedal Assemblies

Tilton pedal assemblies are the benchmark for racing pedal box design, providing precise, adjustable pedal positioning and ratio for brake, clutch, and throttle inputs in race car cockpits. Billet aluminum construction minimizes weight while providing the rigidity required for consistent pedal feel and correct master cylinder actuation under the high pedal forces of racing use. Pedal ratio adjustment allows the driver to tune the mechanical advantage of the brake and clutch pedals for the specific master cylinder bore sizes and system pressures being used.

Tilton produces floor-mount and firewall-mount pedal assemblies in configurations for different cockpit layouts and driver preference. Adjustable pedal pad positions allow correct pedal placement for drivers of different heights and seating positions, and the modular design allows reconfiguration of the pedal assembly for different master cylinder combinations without replacing the entire unit.

Master Cylinders

Tilton master cylinders are manufactured from billet aluminum with precision-honed bores and correct seal geometry for consistent fluid displacement and pedal feel across the operating temperature range of racing use. Bore sizes are available in fine increments to allow precise tuning of brake bias and pedal effort for different vehicle weights, brake system configurations, and driver preferences. Tilton master cylinders are compatible with DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 brake fluids, with the correct seal materials for each fluid type.

Balance Bars & Brake Bias Adjusters

Tilton balance bars and brake bias adjusters allow the driver to adjust front-to-rear brake bias from the cockpit during a race, responding to changing track conditions, tire wear, and fuel load without a pit stop. The balance bar connects the brake pedal to the front and rear master cylinders through an adjustable pivot point — moving the pivot toward one master cylinder increases the force applied to that circuit, shifting brake bias toward that axle. Remote adjuster cables allow the driver to make bias adjustments without removing their hands from the steering wheel.

Common Applications

Tilton components are used across road course, endurance, oval track, drag racing, and rally applications at professional and amateur levels. IndyCar, IMSA WeatherTech, Rolex 24, and Formula racing teams use Tilton clutch systems and pedal assemblies as standard equipment. Amateur road racers, track day enthusiasts, and serious performance builders use Tilton components to bring professional-grade precision to their builds.

Build Quality & Professional Validation

Every Tilton component is designed and manufactured in Buellton, California, with in-house machining, assembly, and quality control that ensures dimensional accuracy and material quality consistent with professional racing requirements. The engineering behind each Tilton product reflects direct feedback from professional racing teams running the hardware at the absolute limit of its ...
