Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation — Disc Brake Conversions & Performance Brake Upgrades

Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation (SSBC) has been engineering brake conversion kits and performance brake components since 1981, building a reputation on drum-to-disc conversion systems and brake upgrades that deliver a measurable improvement in stopping power, pedal feel, and fade resistance on classic muscle cars, hot rods, and performance street vehicles. From a simple front disc conversion on a classic truck to a complete four-wheel disc upgrade on a restomod build, SSBC produces brake solutions engineered for correct fitment and correct performance on each supported platform.

Drum-to-Disc Brake Conversion Kits

SSBC's drum-to-disc conversion kits are the core of the product lineup, replacing factory drum brake assemblies with modern disc brake systems that deliver significantly improved stopping power, better heat dissipation, and more consistent pedal feel under repeated hard braking. Conversion kits are available for front, rear, and four-wheel disc configurations on classic GM, Ford, and Mopar platforms, with application-specific spindles, brackets, calipers, rotors, and hardware included for a complete installation without sourcing additional components.

Front disc conversion kits for classic trucks and muscle cars are the most popular entry point, replacing the factory drum and spindle assembly with a disc brake spindle, caliper, and rotor that bolt into the factory control arm and steering linkage without modification. Rear disc conversion kits replace the factory drum and axle flange assembly with a disc brake bracket, caliper, and rotor that mount to the factory axle housing for a complete four-wheel disc system.

Performance Calipers

SSBC produces performance calipers in single-piston, twin-piston, and multi-piston configurations for upgraded brake systems on classic and modern performance vehicles. Aluminum caliper bodies reduce unsprung weight compared to cast iron OEM calipers, improving suspension response and reducing rotating mass. Stainless steel pistons resist corrosion and heat transfer from the rotor to the brake fluid, maintaining consistent pedal feel and reducing the risk of brake fluid boiling under sustained hard braking.

Big brake caliper kits are available for builds targeting maximum braking performance, with larger piston area and larger rotor diameter combinations that provide significantly more braking torque than OEM or standard replacement brake systems. These are the correct choice for high-horsepower builds, track day vehicles, and tow rigs where the factory brake system is undersized for the vehicle's performance capability or weight.

Rotors

SSBC produces slotted, drilled, and combination slotted/drilled rotors for performance street and track applications. Slotted rotors improve pad degassing and provide a consistent wiping action that maintains a clean pad surface for consistent bite. Drilled rotors reduce rotor weight and improve heat dissipation, with the drilling pattern providing additional surface area for cooling airflow. Combination rotors provide both benefits in a single unit for builds where maximum cooling and consistent pad performance are both priorities.

Stainless Steel Brake Lines

SSBC stainless steel braided brake lines replace factory rubber hoses with stainless-over-PTFE lines that eliminate the expansion under pressure that causes the spongy pedal feel of aged rubber brake hoses. Stainless lines provide a firmer, more consistent pedal feel and resist the deterioration that causes rubber hoses to fail over time. Application-specific line kits are available for the most popular classic and modern vehicle platforms, with correct end fittings and correct lengths for each brake line position on the vehicle.

Common Applications

SSBC brake products cover classic GM A-body, F-body, and full-size platforms, classic Ford Mustang, F-100, and full-size Ford, Mopar B-body and E-body, and a range of modern domestic and import performance vehicles. Drum-to-disc conversion kits are available for the most popular classic truck and muscle car platforms where factory drum brakes are the primary safety limitation of the build.

Installation Notes

SSBC drum-to-disc conversion kit installations require correct master cylinder sizing for the disc brake system being installed — a disc brake master cylinder with the correct bore diameter and residual pressure valve configuration is required for correct pedal feel and system function. A proportioning valve is required on four-wheel disc conversions to balance front-to-rear brake bias correctly. Brake system bleeding is required after installation to remove all air from the system before the vehicle is driven. A professional brake inspection and road test is recommended after any brake system modification.
