Odyssey Battery

Odyssey Battery — Extreme-Performance AGM Batteries for Racing & High-Performance Builds

Odyssey Battery produces some of the most capable AGM batteries available for automotive, motorsports, and marine applications — engineering pure lead AGM cells that deliver significantly higher cranking power, deeper cycle capability, and longer service life than conventional flooded or standard AGM batteries of equivalent size. For race cars, high-compression performance engines, and builds with demanding electrical systems, Odyssey Battery provides the power delivery and reliability that lesser batteries cannot match.

Pure Lead AGM Technology

Odyssey batteries use pure lead plates rather than the lead alloy plates found in conventional AGM batteries, enabling thinner plate construction that allows more plates to fit within the same battery case volume. More plates means more surface area, which translates directly to higher cranking amps and faster recharge acceptance from a battery that is physically no larger than a standard replacement unit. The pure lead construction also delivers lower internal resistance than lead alloy alternatives, maintaining voltage under high-current loads where conventional batteries sag.

The absorbed glass mat separator holds the electrolyte in suspension, eliminating free liquid and allowing the battery to be mounted in any orientation except inverted. The sealed, maintenance-free design produces no free gas under normal charging conditions, making Odyssey batteries safe for enclosed cockpit and trunk mounting in race car and performance street applications.

Cranking Power

Odyssey batteries deliver Cold Cranking Amp ratings that significantly exceed conventional batteries of equivalent group size — in some cases delivering 2–3x the CCA of a standard flooded battery in the same footprint. For high-compression performance engines, diesel applications, and cold-weather starting where cranking demand is at its highest, Odyssey's cranking capability ensures reliable starts without the voltage sag that causes slow cranking and ignition system issues in demanding conditions.

Deep Cycle Capability

Odyssey batteries are engineered for true deep cycle use, capable of repeated discharge to 80% depth of discharge and full recovery without the capacity loss that degrades conventional starting batteries after a handful of deep cycles. This makes Odyssey the correct choice for race cars that sit between events, off-road vehicles with high accessory loads, and marine applications where the battery serves both starting and house power functions. Odyssey rates their batteries for up to 400 charge/discharge cycles to 80% DOD — significantly more than conventional AGM alternatives.

Vibration Resistance

Odyssey batteries are built to MIL-SPEC vibration resistance standards, with a construction that withstands the mechanical shock and vibration of race car, off-road, and marine environments that shorten the service life of conventional batteries. The tightly packed AGM cell construction eliminates the plate movement that causes internal damage in flooded batteries under sustained vibration, and the robust case construction resists cracking and deformation under the mounting loads of race car battery boxes and hold-down systems.

Common Applications

Odyssey batteries are used across drag racing, road course, off-road racing, circle track, and marine applications where battery reliability and cranking performance are non-negotiable. High-performance street builds with high-compression engines, large audio systems, or extensive electrical accessories benefit from Odyssey's superior cranking amps and low internal resistance. Group sizes cover the most popular automotive, motorsports, and marine battery applications, with lightweight options available for weight-sensitive race builds.

Charging Requirements

Odyssey AGM batteries require a charger compatible with AGM chemistry — maximum charge voltage of 14.7V for standard charging and up to 15V for rapid charging per Odyssey's specification. Do not use a conventional flooded battery charger set to a high voltage or equalization mode, as overcharging is the primary cause of premature AGM battery failure. Odyssey recommends their dedicated charger for storage and maintenance charging to maximize battery service life.

Installation Notes

Odyssey batteries can be mounted in any orientation except inverted, providing flexibility for custom mounting locations in race cars and performance builds. Terminal connections must be clean and tight — high-resistance connections cause voltage drop under load that negates the battery's cranking advantage. A battery disconnect switch is recommended for race applications to prevent parasitic drain during storage and to provide a safety shutoff in the event of an electrical fault.
