The platinum firing tip resists erosion at the electrode, maintaining the original gap geometry longer and reducing the gradual performance degradation that occurs as copper electrodes wear. Double platinum construction — platinum on both the center and ground electrode — is the correct specification for waste-spark ignition systems found in many late-model domestic and import vehicles.
Iridium Plugs
Champion's iridium spark plugs represent the top of their street and performance lineup, featuring a fine-wire iridium center electrode that delivers a more focused spark, improved ignitability under high-load conditions, and the longest service life in the Champion lineup.
