Whether you're spinning a turbocharger on exhaust energy or driving a supercharger off the crankshaft, forced induction multiplies the engine's displacement effectively — pushing more air into the combustion chamber than any naturally aspirated combination can match at equivalent displacement. Supercharger pulleys are the primary tuning variable on positive displacement supercharger systems. A smaller supercharger pulley increases the blower's drive ratio relative to the crankshaft, spinning the rotors faster and generating more boost pressure. Pulley swaps are one of the most cost-effective power upgrades available on a supercharged engine — but increased boost demands supporting fuel system, ignition timing, and intercooler capacity to be realized safely. Billet aluminum pulleys are available in a range of diameters for popular Roots-type and twin-screw supercharger applications.

Intercoolers and heat exchangers are critical components on any forced induction system running meaningful boost levels. Compressed air generates heat — and hot intake charge reduces density, increases the risk of detonation, and limits the power the engine can safely produce. Air-to-air intercoolers use ambient airflow to cool the charge between the compressor and the intake manifold. Air-to-water intercoolers use a liquid coolant circuit for more efficient heat exchange in applications where airflow to a front-mounted core is limited. Heat exchangers dissipate the heat absorbed by the intercooler coolant circuit, maintaining system efficiency across extended runs and repeated pulls.

Blow-off valves and bypass valves relieve boost pressure when the throttle closes, preventing compressor surge that causes turbocharger damage and supercharger stress. Atmospheric blow-off valves vent excess pressure to atmosphere — producing the characteristic pressure release sound associated with turbocharged performance vehicles. Recirculating bypass valves return the vented air to the intake tract upstream of the compressor, maintaining metered air accuracy on MAF-based EFI systems.

Boost controllers regulate the boost pressure delivered by the turbocharger, allowing the driver or tuner to set a target boost level and maintain it consistently across the RPM range. Manual boost controllers are simple, reliable, and inexpensive. Electronic boost controllers provide more precise control, allow multiple boost maps, and can be integrated with launch control and traction management systems on advanced builds. Boost gauges provide real-time manifold pressure data — essential for monitoring system performance and catching boost leaks or wastegate issues before they cause engine damage.
