Power Steering

Steering feel is one of the most underrated aspects of a performance build — and one of the most noticeable when it's wrong. A vague, heavy, or inconsistent steering system undermines driver confidence regardless of how well the suspension is sorted. Whether you're adding power steering to a classic that never had it, rebuilding a worn system on a custom truck, or upgrading to a rack-and-pinion setup for improved precision, this collection covers every component in the steering circuit: pumps, hoses and lines, reservoirs, pulleys, flow valves, fluid, rack and pinions, pitman arms, idler arms, drag links, and steering box components.

Power steering pumps are the pressure source for the entire hydraulic system. A worn or undersized pump causes heavy steering effort, slow return-to-center, and inconsistent feel — particularly at low speeds and during parking maneuvers. Performance and OEM-replacement pumps are available for a wide range of domestic applications, with high-pressure units available for builds running larger tires or heavier front ends that demand more hydraulic assist. Pulleys determine pump speed relative to engine RPM — underdrive pulleys reduce parasitic loss at high RPM while maintaining adequate pressure at idle.

Power steering hoses and lines carry high-pressure fluid between the pump, steering gear or rack, and reservoir. Deteriorated hoses are a common source of fluid leaks and pressure loss that causes erratic steering feel. Replacement hoses are available in OEM-profile rubber and braided stainless configurations for custom routing and a cleaner underhood appearance. Reservoirs and flow control valves maintain consistent fluid supply and regulate system pressure — critical for smooth, predictable steering response across the full range of vehicle speeds.

Rack-and-pinion conversions are one of the most impactful steering upgrades available for classic vehicles originally equipped with recirculating ball steering boxes. Rack-and-pinion geometry provides more direct steering response, reduced bump steer, and better on-center feel — transforming the handling character of a classic truck or muscle car into something approaching a modern performance vehicle. Conversion kits are available for popular domestic platforms and include all hardware needed for a complete swap.

Steering boxes, pitman arms, idler arms, and drag links serve recirculating ball steering systems on classic and truck applications. Worn pitman and idler arms introduce slop into the steering linkage that no alignment can correct — replacement with quality units restores precision and eliminates the vague, wandering feel that develops as these components wear. Heavy-duty and adjustable drag links are available for lifted trucks where factory geometry is compromised by increased ride height.

This collection serves classic muscle cars and trucks, street rods, pro-touring builds, lifted trucks, and any custom vehicle where steering precision and reliability are priorities. Fitment is application-specific on pumps, racks, and steering boxes — verify compatibility with your make, model, and suspension configuration before ordering.

Power steering pump and hose replacements are straightforward bolt-on installs on most applications. Rack-and-pinion conversions require more involved installation and may require steering shaft modification and alignment after installation. Always bleed the power steering system thoroughly after any component replacement to eliminate air from the hydraulic circuit.
