The right fluids and chemicals protect your investment, extend component life, and keep every system operating within spec — whether you're breaking in a fresh engine, maintaining a daily driver, or detailing a show truck. Motor oil and oil additives are the first line of defense for any engine. High-zinc, high-ZDDP formulations are essential for flat-tappet camshafts — a critical consideration on any classic or performance engine running a non-roller cam. Modern API-rated oils have reduced zinc content to protect catalytic converters, making purpose-formulated performance and break-in oils a necessity on built engines. Assembly lubricants protect critical surfaces during initial startup before oil pressure is established — never assemble a performance engine without them.

Gear oil and transmission fluid protect the drivetrain under the thermal and mechanical loads that performance driving generates. Limited-slip differentials require friction-modifier-compatible gear oil to prevent chatter and ensure proper clutch pack engagement. Automatic transmission fluid selection is critical on modified converters and valve bodies — the wrong fluid viscosity affects shift quality, converter lockup, and long-term clutch pack life.

Brake fluid is a safety-critical fluid that's frequently overlooked on maintenance schedules. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, lowering its boiling point and increasing the risk of vapor lock under hard braking. High-performance DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 fluids offer significantly higher dry and wet boiling points than standard DOT 3 — essential on any vehicle with upgraded brakes or track use.

Fuel additives address a range of issues — ethanol protection for carbureted and older EFI systems, upper cylinder lubrication for engines running on low-sulfur fuel, injector cleaning, and octane enhancement for high-compression engines running on pump gas. Coolant additives improve heat transfer, inhibit corrosion in aluminum cooling systems, and extend coolant service intervals.

Gasket coatings, RTV sealers, and thread sealants are the difference between a leak-free engine and one that weeps oil at every gasket surface. The right sealer for the application — high-temp RTV for exhaust and oil pan applications, anaerobic sealers for machined surfaces, copper spray for head gaskets — matters as much as torque spec and surface prep. Rust removers and rust converters are essential on restoration and custom builds where bare metal work is part of the process.

Paint, polishing compounds, spray lubricants, and car wash products keep the exterior and underhood presentation at show quality. Touch-up paint, chassis black, and high-temp engine enamel protect and finish surfaces. Polishing compounds and detailing products maintain the finish between shows and protect against UV, oxidation, and environmental contamination.
